LIFE LONG LEARNING `````````````````````````````````
As Salaamu Alaykum
Alhamdulillah, iiFRi has teamed up the University of KwaZULU-Natal and are now
bringing to you the Life Long Learning program.
The Life Long Learning is a program that is in keeping with the Islamic principle of
"Seeking Knowledge from the cradle to the grave." The first series of lectures commences on the 15th of August 2009
and will be conducted by Sheikh Rafeek Hassen who has a Masters in Religious and Cultural
Transformation.
The discussion will centre around the key issue : Islam and the Modern World -
conflict or co-existence ? This question is becoming increasingly important given the increased and heightened
conflict spots in mainly Muslim countries and an erroneous assumption that Islam is NOT compatible with the Modern
World.
This question will be answered over a series of
Lectures held at MTB building C3 Seminar Room Howard College commencing 15th August 2009.
In order to answer this question one needs to
understand what Islam is, its ethos, its politics, its cosmology, and how it reached the Modern world over the past
14 Centuries. One also needs to understand the Modern World, its 'origin', its politics, its cosmology etc. and
THEN one can make an informed comparison between Islam and the Modern World - where the points of co-existence meet
and where the points of conflicts meet.
In recent years, Muslims have taken centre stage
globally after the well publicised events of 9-11, the invasion of Muslim Countries under the banner of "a war on
terror" and the notion that Islam is not compatible with the Modern World.
It will also discuss that despite all this, Islam
is still the fastest growing religion in the world today. These and many other related events and notions, if not
properly understood by individuals and Governments can lead to catastrophic global human conflict exceeding the
horrors and suffering of World War 1 and 2 by leaps and bounds.
It thus becomes imperative for all concerned and
thinking individuals of ALL RELIGIONS AND COLOURS AND NATIONALITIES to make objective and unemotional efforts to
find the truth, sift facts from the fiction and myths and single out the causes, even if it lies within one's own
fraternity and taking proper remedial action. Only then can global peace and harmony between religions, nations and
people be restored.
The cost for this course is only R90.00 ($12.00)
per session.
